Introduction

Southwest Research Institute For Hydraulic And Water Transport Engineering was founded in 1965(Abbreviated as Western Academy of Sciences),which is used to be the Ministry of Water Resources Electric Power and Ministry of Transport for Southwest Research Institute For Water Transport Engineering. It is the earliest established for synthetic Scientific research institutions of water conservancy, transportation, energy in the southwest region and approved by Academician Qian Zhengying, former Minister of Water Resources and Electric Power, personally for construction.The Western Academy of Sciences has developed into the largest and leading professional research institution in water conservancy and hydropower engineering, port and waterway engineering, river management, and navigation construction engineering in the southwest region, with per capita scientific research resources in the country.

Currently our academy has more than 100 employees of which over 80% are senior technical personnel.we have four professional research institute for hub navigation station, waterway engineering station, smart water conservancy and aquatic ecology station and structural engineering and information equipment station.It has one national level platform of National Inland Waterway Regulation Engineering Center( Western base of Sciences) and five provincial and ministerial level platforms for the Key

We have two research bases for Yuzhong District and Science City in Chongqing and Establishing the largest comprehensive water conservancy and transportation experimental base in the central and western regions of China.Our academy enjoys lotsof advanced equipment of the largest wave and current harbor experimental system in the Southwest region,large scale wave flow water tank experimental system,automatic circulation control and measurement system for unsteady flow in open channels,multi parameter measurement system for ship lock hydraulics and large navigation ship simulator.A scientific experimental platform has been constructed, including a water flow turbulence and sediment transport experimental system, a shipping hub and navigation building model measurement and control system, a waterway engineering model measurement and control system, a lock hydraulic measurement and control system, a ship navigation simulation measurement and control system, and a numerical experimental system for inland waterway regulation.The research scope covers multiple fields such as deep sea engineering, inland port and navigation engineering, and water conservancy and hydropower engineering.

The development of the Western Academy of Sciences has received personal guidance and strong support from leaders at all levels. Vice Chairman of the 12th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Liu Xiaofeng, former Minister of Transport Huang Zhendong and Li Shenglin, former Secretary of the Chongqing Municipal Party Committee Chen Miner, former Mayor Tang Liangzhi and other leaders have visited the Western Academy of Sciences multiple times to inspect and guide the work in recent years.It has always placed innovation at the core of its overall development With the central task of becoming a“transportation powerhouse”, we have created a series of scientific research achievements with international leading and advanced levels.Which has undertaken more than 3000 scientific research consulting projects for major national projects such as the Yangtze River Golden Waterway, the Gezhouba Project, the Three Gorges Project, the Xijiang Golden Waterway, the Pinglu Canal, and the Yangtze River to Huaihe River Diversion Project, and has won more than 80 national and provincial science and technology awards (including one special prize, two second prizes, one third prize, one national science and technology conference award, and one the State Technological Innovation Award), providing strong technical support for the construction of a transportation power and a maritime powersince Since its establishmentits.
